SERMÃO DE SANTO ANTÔNIO AOS PEIXES /

SERMON OF SAINT ANTHONY TO THE FISHES

De acordo com a tradição, Santo Antônio pregou aos peixes!

 Ao perceber a falta de atenção e fé de algumas pessoas durante suas pregações, Santo Antônio dirigiu-se à beira do mar e começou a pregar aos peixes. A história relata que uma grande multidão de peixes se reuniu para ouvi-lo, demonstrando respeito e admiração pela Palavra de Deus, ao contrário dos homens, que se mostravam indiferentes.

Santo Antônio, o “Doutor Evangélico”

Também conhecido como Santo Antônio de Lisboa, Santo Antônio de Pádua foi um frade franciscano português que, em 1946, foi declarado Doutor da Igreja pelo Papa Pio XII, com o Título de “Doutor Evangélico”, reconhecimento justo pela sua “profunda contribuição para o conhecimento e vivência da fé cristã”, de acordo com a Igreja. Português de nascimento e natural de Lisboa, Santo Antônio recebeu seu sobrenome da cidade italiana de Pádua, onde teve sua última residência e onde suas relíquias são ainda veneradas.

According to tradition, Saint Anthony preached to the fish!

Upon noticing the lack of attention and faith from some people during his sermons, Saint Anthony went to the shore and began to preach to the fish. The story recounts that a large crowd of fish gathered to listen to him, showing respect and admiration for the Word of God, unlike the men, who remained indifferent.

Saint Anthony, the “Evangelical Doctor”

Also known as Saint Anthony of Lisbon, Saint Anthony of Padua was a Portuguese Franciscan friar who, in 1946, was declared a Doctor of the Church by Pope Pius XII, with the title of “Evangelical Doctor,” a just recognition for his “profound contribution to the understanding and practice of the Christian faith,” according to the Church.Born in Portugal and a native of Lisbon, Saint Anthony received his surname from the Italian city of Padua, where he had his final residence and where his relics are still venerated.

Curiosidades:

1)O peixe é relacionado com o cristianismo devido ao seu significado simbólico, especialmente o termo grego "ichthys" (ἰχθύς), que significa "peixe".

As letras que formam a palavra “peixe” em grego, quando escritas em maiúsculas (ΙΧΘΥΣ), formam um acrônimo com as iniciais da expressão “Iēsous Christos, Theou Yios, Sōtēr", que significa “Jesus Cristo, Filho de Deus, Salvador”.

Dessa forma, o peixe veio a se tornar, um dos primeiros símbolos cristãos, juntamente com a imagem do Bom Pastor. 

2)Em 30 de maio de 1232, menos de um ano após a morte do franciscano, o Papa Gregório 9° proclamou que Antônio já podia ser eternizado no rol dos santos da Igreja. "Em honra e louvor à Santíssima Trindade e para exaltação da santa Igreja, inscrevemos o servo de Deus, Frei Antônio, confessor da Ordem dos Frades Menores, no catálogo dos santos, e ordenamos que a sua festa seja celebrada todos os anos em 13 de junho", anunciou o pontífice.

3)No Dicionário do Folclore Brasileiro, o antropólogo, historiador e sociólogo Luís da Câmara Cascudo (1898-1986), nascido em Natal, Capital do Rio Grande do Norte, registrou uma das várias versões da oração a Santo Antônio (originalmente em latim) no português coloquial. "Seu nome batiza igrejas, ruas e continua sendo um dos mais escolhidos para menino, em Portugal e Brasil", aponta Cascudo. "Rara será a cidade, vila ou povoado sem uma rua de Santo Antônio ou uma igreja de Santo Antônio, em todas as terras do idioma português."

1)Fishes are associated with Christianity due to their symbolic meaning, especially the Greek term "ichthys" (ἰχθύς), which means "fish". The letters that form the word "fish" in Greek, when written in capital letters (ΙΧΘΥΣ), form an acronym with the initials of the expression "Iēsous Christos, Theou Yios, Sōtēr", which means "Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior".

3)In the Dictionary of Brazilian Folklore, anthropologist, historian and sociologist Luís da Câmara Cascudo (1898-1986), born in Natal, the capital of Rio Grande do Norte (Northeastern State of Brasil), recorded one of the many versions of the prayer to Saint Anthony (originally in Latin) in colloquial Portuguese. "His name is used to name churches, streets, and continues to be one of the most chosen names for boys in Portugal and Brazil," Cascudo points out. "It will be rare to find a city, town, or village without a street named after Saint Anthony or a church of Saint Anthony, in all the lands of the Portuguese language."

Em tempo: As festas juninas brasileiras incluem as de São João, de Santo Antônio e de São Pedro, este celebrado no dia 29 de junho.

Pedro, um dos doze apóstolos de Jesus, reconheceu que Jesus é o Filho de Deus. De acordo com a Bíblia, Jesus o determinou "apascentar as ovelhas" e afirmou: " tu és Pedro e sobre esta pedra edificarei a minha Igreja".

"Pescadores de homens" e não de peixes

"Andando à beira do mar da Galileia, Jesus viu dois irmãos: Simão, chamado Pedro, e seu irmão André. Eles estavam lançando redes ao mar, pois eram pescadores.
