The National Congress Palace is one of the postcards of Brasília and is located at the far east of the Monumental Axis. It occupies one of the vertices of the triangle that outlines the Three Powers Square. At the base vertices of the triangle are the Palácio do Planalto and the Supreme Federal Court.

Designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer, the Palace consists of a main building, laid out horizontally, which serves as a platform for the domes of the Federal Senate and the Chamber of Deputies.

Em 2007, coincidindo com o centésimo aniversário de Oscar Niemeyer, o Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (IPHAN) decidiu pelo tombamento do edifício do Congresso Nacional;

The smaller dome, facing downwards, houses the Federal Senate Hall. The larger dome, facing upwards, houses the Chamber of Deputies Hall. Behind the main building and between the two domes are two 28-story towers: one belongs to the Chamber and the other to the Senate.

In 2007, coinciding with the hundredth anniversary of Oscar Niemeyer, the National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage (IPHAN) decided to list the National Congress building as a protected site;

Croqui do Congresso Nacional.

"At the Palace of Congress, for example, the design was shaped according to this criterion, the conveniences of architecture and urban planning, the volumes, open spaces, visual opportunities and perspectives, and especially the intention of giving it a monumental character, with the simplification of its elements and the adoption of pure and geometric forms. From this arose the entire project of the Palace and the use of the local layout, in such a way as to create at the level of the avenues that flank it a monumental esplanade and to place on it the domes that were meant to characterize it hierarchically."
